Striving for Continuous Flow Continuous flow is one of the foundational goals for developing a lean flow system. Flow Simplification is a training tutorial that illustrates the value of continuous flow. The training is accompanied by hands on simulations and observations of your processes, all guided by an experienced coach. This training prepares the team for a more detailed Value Stream Analysis. Simplifying material and information flows lead to big improvements in speed, quality and flexibility. The Process Current state flows typically have big interruptions throughout the process where inventory and backlogs build up. Lead times are long and highly variable, making it difficult to predict when a customer will get their product/service. We analyze your operation, look for opportunities to implement continuous flow and mathematically design the optimal amount of inventory/backlog at break points (standard Work In Process, or WIP). We can then monitor actual to target design and trigger the problem solving process. The ultimate ideal is continuous flow with minimal interruptions.
